What is Your View of God This Day?
Scripture reading: Mark 8; Matthew 16:17-19
Today I present you with questions in hope that we examine ourselves and get to know God in a more intimate way!
Key verse: Mark 8:27 “… Who do men say that I am?”
Then Jesus and His disciples went out to the villages of Caesarea Philippi; and on the way He asked His disciples, “Who do people say that I am?” 28 They answered Him, “John the Baptist; and others say Elijah; but others, one of the prophets.” 29 And He asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter replied to Him, “You [in contrast to the others] are the Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed).” 30 Then Jesus strictly warned them not to tell anyone about Him.
And He began to teach them that the Son of Man must [of necessity] suffer many things and be rejected [as the Messiah] by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and must be put to death, and after three days rise [from death to life]. 32 He was stating the matter plainly [not holding anything back]. Then Peter took Him aside and began to reprimand Him. 33 But turning around [with His back to Peter] and seeing His disciples, He rebuked Peter, saying, “Get behind Me, Satan; for your mind is not set on God’s will or His values and purposes, but on what pleases man.”
Jesus called the crowd together with His disciples, and said to them, “If anyone wishes to follow Me [as My disciple], he must deny himself [set aside selfish interests], and [e]take up his cross [expressing a willingness to endure whatever may come] and follow Me [believing in Me, conforming to My example in living and, if need be, suffering or perhaps dying because of faith in Me]. 35 For whoever wishes to save his life [in this world] will [eventually] lose it [through death], but whoever loses his life [in this world] for My sake and the gospel’s will save it [from the consequences of sin and separation from God]. 36 For what does it benefit a man to gain the whole world [with all its pleasures], and forfeit his soul? 37 For what will a man give in exchange for his soul and eternal life [in God’s kingdom]? 38 For whoever is ashamed [here and now] of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”
Let’s look at a quick review of chapter 8 up to this point.
In verse 4
Mark 8:4 (KJV) “And his disciples answered him, ‘From whence can a man satisfy these men with bread here in the wilderness?’”
Christ is the Living Bread of Life, He is the Word and He will satisfy you in your wilderness experience.
Are you passing through a difficult time? Or maybe a wilderness experience? Only God can truly satisfy you! Who is God “this” day?
So Peter sees that Jesus did the miracle with the Bread (& Fish). He sees Jesus open the eyes of the blind. Then Peter calls Him the Christ after seeing these miracles and God revealing it to him.
*Yet Peter does not like something that Jesus tells him. One minute you identify Him as the “Son”, and the next you are questioning Him? Does this sound like you sometimes! Let’s believe God is who He says He is, and that His promises are yes and amen!
“Matthew 16:15-19 (KJV) “15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? 16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”
The word for Peter comes out of the word for rock (safe to say Peter is little rock or stone). God is our “Rock”! Jesus is the cornerstone that the apostles and prophets build upon. Sometimes maybe we are like Peter and think we are the “Rock” when we are the rock.
What I am saying is that sometimes we can forget who God is. He is the Rock, the Creator of the world and of you and me. God knows what is best in our lives. God has a purpose and a plan for your life. He is the God of providence and He is all knowing!
I exhort you instead of questioning God like Apostle Peter, let’s put our trust in the Cornerstone!
Who do you say that God is today? Jesus is my Lord and Savior! Jesus is the Rock! Deliverer! Healer! Provider! ….etc….!!!!!!!
When we see the miracles, signs, and wonders it is easy to believe. What happens when you are not seeing these things? Maybe doubt, fear, and anxiety to name a few things. This is when relationship with God is key. You will know who He is because you will know Him.
To you today I say to you that, God is a God of relationship!!! Spend some time in prayer having a relationship with God “this” day!
Remember to smile God loves you!
